“A Perilous Path Through Physics: Obstacles, Supports, and Strategies of Women of Color in Physics” is a 60-page zine about the structural and interpersonal marginalization that women of color physicists experience in their schooling and careers, as well as the community, family, and individual support, strategies, resources, and resilience that they access to survive and, in some cases, thrive. This zine is based on the book “The Double Bind in Physics Education: Intersectionality, Equity, and Belonging for Women of Color” by Dr. Maria (Mia) Ong, and was commissioned by Dr. Ong with funding from TERC. The book provides insights from Dr. Ong’s 25-year longitudinal study following 10 women of color from their time as physics undergraduates through their varied career and life paths leading to now. The zine takes these learnings and places them as visuals of obstacles and helping hands along a difficult journey.
